Job Description:

AMA is currently accepting applications for a short term (10-week) on-site summer position associated with Entry Systems work conducted at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. Work will be in support of the Entry Systems and Vehicle Development Branch (TSS), part of the Entry Systems and Technology Division at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA.

The successful candidate will play an important role in an area of research related to Guidance, Navigation, and Control for the Flight Mechanics Technical Discipline Team, participating in a guidance fly-off by setting up and running convex optimization algorithms or indirect methods for powered descent. Preferred candidates will have experience in trajectory modeling, flight mechanics, and/or 6DOF guidance/navigation/control.

The pay rate for this position will be $21.00-$29.00 per hour and is commensurate with experience and education.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will vary based on the project area assigned to the candidate. Responsibilities will include:

• Perform research on assigned topic for period of 10 weeks
• Regular reporting (verbal and/or written) to research mentor on progress of project
• Present final results to division at completion of project

Requirements:

• Progress toward a degree (undergraduate or graduate) in technical areas of relevance to entry systems is required.
• Candidates pursuing a PhD or MS in Engineering in a relevant discipline, such as Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, are highly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required.
• US citizenship or permanent US residency is a requirement for this position.
• On-site presence at NASA Ames Research Center is required
