Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work may include preparing designs, studies, and specifications for medium- to high-voltage facilities including substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, generation (renewable and other), and energy storage systems. Primary clients will be electric utilities, renewable energy developers, and large industrial clients.
The ideal candidate must be self-directed and quality driven with enthusiasm for new challenges and a desire to learn. Typical tasks will include completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; assisting with writing proposals and reports; and communicating with clients under the supervision of a registered professional engineer. The work will occasionally involve short-term travel, usually one week or less in duration. All applications must include transcripts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Electrical or other related engineering major
At least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics
Junior or senior standing with a minimum of one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after the internship
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software
Familiarity with AutoCAD
Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results
Thorough, organized, detail-oriented approach
A flexible working style and the ability to work both independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future
Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
GPA of at least 3.2
Degree with a focus in power systems
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of our Duluth, Minnesota, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
